Custom First Flush System for the Sunshine Coast’s Largest Marina

“Pelican Waters Marina chose Fox Environmental to undertake our trade waste and environmental treatment systems design. We have our bulk fuel fill, boat washdown bay and boat yard areas all installed with Fox Enviromental systems which ensure our marina operates at the highest environmental compliance standards in regard to stormwater and waste water discharges. This was a non-standard design approach for a unique asset and Dave and his team were always available for discussions and advice during meetings with the relevant authorities. Great work team.”
Hamish Pressland – CEO Pelican Waters Marina.

The Task

Pelican Waters Marina on the Sunshine Coast set out to build the largest marina on the Sunshine Coast, with top facilities for boat owners.

A key part of the project was using smart, eco-friendly systems to deal with water runoff and boat wash water.
They needed to meet strict environmental rules, protect the local waterways, and keep operations smooth and compliant.

The Plan

The marina was built to fit 160 boats on land and 126 wet berths for vessels up to 15m long, making it the biggest on the Sunshine Coast.

Russell Jones Hydraulics worked with Fox Environmental Systems to design and install custom-built treatment and diversion systems.

The biggest challenge was controlling dirty water from a 3,000m² open wash area in a region known for heavy rain.

The Solution

The team created a custom First Flush Diversion System designed to match the marina’s size and layout.
It included specially sized diversion valves, a plate-mounted setup, and systems that manage both boat washdown water and the first 10mm of rain runoff.

This setup keeps the marina compliant with environmental standards, reduces water waste, runs automatically with little manual work, and boosts its reputation as a leader in sustainable marine operations.
