FX6000SS Oil Water Separators Ensure Stormwater Compliance at Moorebank

Moorebank Intermodal Precinct

The Task

As part of the new Moorebank Intermodal Precinct (MIP), two FX6000SS Oil Water Separators were required for installation within transformer bays. The goal was to manage stormwater runoff that may contain trace amounts of hydrocarbons from the transformer hardstand. A key requirement was to prevent large volumes of oil from entering the system in the event of a transformer failure.

Single FX6000SS Oil Water Separator in transformer bay at Moorebank Intermodal Precinct

The Plan

Each unit would be installed side by side, one in each transformer bay. The system was designed to treat stormwater containing incidental hydrocarbons. To safeguard against spill events, the pump system would be integrated with a pressure drop alarm signal from the transformer.

The Solution

Two FX6000SS units were successfully installed within the transformer bays. Each pump was programmed to shut off and trigger an alarm upon receiving a pressure drop signal, acting as an early warning for potential transformer failure. This setup ensures stormwater is properly treated while protecting the system from large-scale oil contamination.
