The Boat Works Marina – Oil Water Separator Wash Bay

Phil Suliman, Director of Carbon Services Group, worked with Fox Environmental Systems to deliver a compliant, high-performance oil water separation and first flush system for The Boat Works marina in Coomera. Servicing some of the world’s most impressive vessels, the marina needed a robust, environmentally-conscious solution for its unroofed wash pad.

The Task

The Boat Works at Coomera is one of Australia’s premier marinas, owned by former Australian racing driver and water ski champion Anthony Longhurst. The site is held to high standards for both performance and environmental responsibility.

Located near the Gold Coast – one of Australia’s most popular tourist destinations – any infrastructure upgrade needed to meet strict environmental and council regulations while delivering top-tier functionality.

The marina required a solution for an unroofed wash pad used to clean large sea-going vessels exposed to salt water and harsh marine conditions. The challenge was ensuring long-term compliance, environmental protection, and durability in these conditions.

The Plan

Phil Suliman (Carbon Services Group) and Dave Dickson (Fox Environmental Systems) collaborated extensively to design a system that would:

  • Meet local council environmental requirements
  • Handle saltwater runoff effectively
  • Support thorough cleaning of large vessels
  • Include a reliable oil water separator
  • Operate efficiently in an unroofed, open-to-weather environment

They determined that a First Flush System paired with a properly sized oil water separator would deliver the most effective and sustainable result. This also ensured compliance with trade waste discharge regulations common to marine facilities.

The Solution

Fox Environmental supplied equipment tailored to the site’s specific needs, including:

  • 24 x Custom Diversion Valve Plate-Mounted Systems
  • 5 x FX6000SS 316 Oil Water Separators
  • 2 x X2 Controllers
  • 3 x X3 Controllers
  • 2 x X2 DS Controllers
  • 4 x ASM DS25 Diaphragm Pumps
  • 4 x ASM DS38 Diaphragm Pumps

These components were selected for their durability, corrosion resistance, and proven performance in high-demand marine environments.

“We have always received awesome help from Fox from pre-ordering to receiving the order. I would definitely recommend Fox; they have been great to work with.”
Phil Suliman, Director of Carbon Services Group

Key Outcomes

The result was a fully compliant, environmentally-friendly, and highly functional wash bay system that meets the operational demands of The Boat Works marina. It enables efficient cleaning of large vessels while protecting the local waterways — essential for a marina of this calibre.

In total, Fox Environmental Systems supplied:

  • 24 Diversion Valves
  • 5 FX6000SS 316 Oil Water Separators
  • 5 ASM DS38 Diaphragm Pumps
  • A mix of X2, X3, and X2 DS Controllers

This installation sets a benchmark for sustainable marina infrastructure in Australia, showcasing Fox Environmental’s expertise in combining environmental compliance with operational performance.
