The Plan
The Fox Team worked with Roy Li from BUCG-CCCL Joint Venture working with (AAHK) Airport Authority Hong Kong, to design a new unroofed A380 Aircraft Wash Bay and Diversion System for one of the world’s largest unroofed wash bays at one of the world’s busiest airports.
The system was created to manage two key functions — a washdown system for cleaning planes and a first flush (FF) system for protecting the stormwater during major rain events. Both systems were designed to be completely independent, improving control, reliability, and safety.
The Solution
The design includes two custom plate mounted First Flush Diversion Systems that both run from the same control panel. The first System is a one valve system, which operates the washdown system, used when cleaning planes and is completely independent and operates for only washdown.
The second System functions as a First Flush (FF) system using nine Diversion Valves, taking the first 10mm of rain from the wash bay (cleaning cycle) and diverting it to treatment, the system is fitted with a custom BMS providing real-time status monitoring of all valves and transmitting alerts to the office.
The Conclusion
This new and updated system has now been delivered to Hong Kong International Airport. Fox enhanced the design by adding a control panel show all valve status, operations and faults for each valve. The system is now easier to operate, more reliable, and provides better visibility and control for airport staff in both daily operations and during major rain events.
