Project at a Glance
The Task
The Queensland Ambulance Service Station in Birtinya, QLD needed a compliant way to wash their emergency vehicles inside an enclosed wash bay. Because the wash area is indoors, all washdown water had to be contained and treated before discharge. Ambulances carry oils, fuel residue and road grime, so the site needed to prevent any contaminated water from reaching the stormwater system and ensure full compliance with Queensland trade waste requirements.
The Plan
The plan was to install a simple, reliable treatment setup that could operate effectively outside of the indoor wash bay and handle frequent ambulance washing. The system had to collect all washdown water inside the bay, treat it by removing oils and contaminants, and then discharge it safely to the trade waste outlet, while being low-maintenance and automatic for daily ambulance cleaning.
The Solution

A fully automatic wash bay treatment system featuring a FX1500SS (1500 L/hr) Oil Water Separator, including a pump and controller, was installed. Fox supplied the complete equipment package, which was installed by local plumbing and electrical contractors. The system has been fully operational since installation, with staff reporting they are very happy with its performance and have experienced zero issues.
